I paint because I love it. I enjoy creating, I love colors, combinations, a challenge, experimenting, and making a space happier. I enjoy bringing joy! So, that’s what you’ll see in my paintings.
Born and raised in Venezuela, Mónica was always surrounded by paint and brushes thanks to an artist father. With a background in advertising, she was permanently in contact with design, color, and style, but it was not until 1999 that she formally started her formation as a painter at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Her painting formation never stops as she continues learning and being inspired by wonderful artists. Mónica has a graphic style, and many have called her a colorist. She aims for simplicity, interesting design, and strong brushwork.
Mónica currently shows her work at her home studio (by appointment only), at the North Carolina Museum of Art Store, and at ArtSource in Raleigh, NC.
She also loves to help other artists establish a painting practice that takes them to paint more, daily if possible, because she believes that the more you paint, the better painter you become; that’s why she created the now very popular class, The Happy Habit of Daily Painting. And from time to time, she invites well-known artists to teach multiday painting workshops! Check all about this at Painting Miles.
She lives with her husband (her kids are now in college!) in Apex, NC.
